In the NEET UG 2024, Ananya Mishra secured the 100th all-India rank, attaining a score of 698 out of 720. Currently enrolled in the MBBS program at Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) in New Delhi, the 19-year-old from Patna achieved an impressive 99.4% in Class 10 and 97.8% in Class 12.

Since childhood, Mishra harbored a dream of becoming a doctor, greatly inspired by her maternal grandfather. To pursue her goal, she underwent a two-year coaching program at Allen, Kota.

However, with the onset of the Covid pandemic, the classes transitioned to an online format, and for the majority of the duration, she attended classes from the comfort of her home, Mishra elaborates on her NEET UG preparation.

My primary groundwork for NEET UG commenced during my time in Class 11 and Class 12 when I joined the coaching classes at the Allen Institute. My primary focus was excelling in NEET UG, and the board exams took a secondary priority. Physics demanded the most of my time initially, as I found it somewhat challenging at the beginning of my preparation. However, in both my board exams and the medical entrance test, I managed to secure full marks in physics.

Chemistry is another subject I enjoy. I derived satisfaction from solving my coaching modules, and concurrently, I consistently read NCERT books, which proved immensely beneficial.

For biology, I adopted the practice of meticulously noting down crucial information. Additionally, I developed the habit of using sticky notes, creating charts, and affixing them to the walls of my room for constant reference and review.

Following the completion of my board exams, my focus shifted to daily mock exams. Initially, I took one test each day, eventually progressing to two. I adhered to the timing of the NEET UG exams – from 2 pm to 5 pm – and followed the dress code stipulated by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

I maintained a disciplined sleep schedule and ensured adequate rest during the night, refusing to compromise on this essential aspect of my routine.

I also participated in a distance learning program offered by Aakash Byju’s. I diligently followed the modules provided by both Aakash and Allen, ensuring comprehensive coverage of NCERT textbooks.

For physics, I found the USS Errorless Book and BM Sharma particularly valuable. In chemistry, I relied on my coaching modules, and for physical chemistry, I referred to N Avasthi. Regarding biology, my primary focus was on the NCERT material.

Here are some key principles I adhered to during my preparation:

  • Maintain a positive and optimistic attitude throughout the preparation.
  • Consistency is the crucial element for achieving success.
  • Hard work has no substitute.
  • Practice as many question papers as possible.
  • Despite thorough preparation and mock tests, be prepared for unexpected questions. Stay calm and tackle them with confidence.
  • Avoid unnecessary stress; treat the exam as just that—an exam.

On the day of my NEET exam, I did experience nervousness, but my sole focus was on answering the maximum number of questions correctly.

Balancing the preparation for NEET UG and board exams simultaneously was challenging, but effective prioritization alleviated the stress. My board exam results were a natural outcome of my dedicated NEET UG preparation.
